abrie2016What is your involvement with the communications industry?

I started off in the AV industry at the end of 2004 in the residential satellite TV environment but soon started working on projects involving SMA TV systems with large scale communal RF Distribution and Public Address Systems. Thereafter I joined Kwyni Technology Solutions for 3 years which gave me a lot of exposure to professional AV systems as well as the basic information around video signals and integration.

In April 2009 I joined Electrosonic SA under Bruce Genricks and Eugene Coetzee and it is now the 8th year that I am part of the Electrosonic team. Based on the Electrosonic business model I had the opportunity to get involved with our extensive reseller base and got exposure to large professional projects across the professional AV industry. Electrosonic promotes constant education and training and aside from a few marketing modules through Unisa, I acquired my InfoComm CTS qualification in 2012 and renewed again in 2015.

Further to this, I offer product and technical training to our dealer network as well as internal colleagues on occasion. I have also written articles on events and technologies for Electrosonic’s Promag magazine as well as contributed to ProSystems News where I already had three technical articles published.

How have you been involved with SACIA in the past?

Through SACIA I attended training courses and completed GEN111 and GEN112 prior to taking the CTS exam.

I attend SACIA events representing Electrosonic SA. I am an individual member of SACIA.

I also have the CERT AV PROF through SACIA.

What do you expect to contribute to the Association over the next two years?

As an individual member of SACIA I am largely impressed with the pace that the organisation grew and expanded since it was founded. The impact that SACIA made with the South African Qualifications Authority is really noteworthy and the ripple effect into the industry is amazing. The current member numbers are proof thereof.

I would be able to contribute to the board by promoting SACIA and the principles that SACIA represents to a large network of AV resellers and integrators that I have access to during my standard work day at Electrosonic SA. I also believe I have enough experience to debate certain ideas and their possible challenges pertaining to the professional AV industry should these arrive on the SACIA agenda.

Abrie du Plooy has been a member of SACIA since 10 November 2009 and is CertAV Prof certified.
