Electrosonic SA Pty LTD – Statement on the COVID 19 Virus

Our President, Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a national state of disaster in South Africa in light of the current global pandemic caused by the Coronavirus, Covid-19, during a national address on Sunday Evening the 15th March 2020.

As the world and even some of us panic with the Coronavirus pandemic, we need to stay calm, be rational and make informed decisions. This too SHALL pass, but we have a way to go first.

The President’s declaration of a national state of disaster in South Africa in light of the current global pandemic COVID 19 , has and will still have many positive outcomes in containing the spread, but also there are some large unfortunate negatives that have resulted from this declaration. One of these that has had a drastic effect on the Live Events and Hospitality Industry as a whole, is the preventing of gatherings for more than 100 people. The consequence of this is that our beloved industry has been brought to its knees.

We have engaged far and wide over the last few days, with our overseas partners, our valued clients and with our staff to share our thoughts, feelings and fears about the situation. The underlying sentiment from Electrosonic is that we need to stick together, communicate and ultimately to be positive towards each other and towards the future. As many have said, this is a time to reflect and use this time to our advantage. It has been amazing to see how some people have turned the negative into positive and are finding ways to keep the doors open by repurposing their inventory and assets.

We wish to highlight that our Live Events team is all here and ready to assist you. Our workshop is ready and available to service, maintain or update your inventory. Normally there is no time to do this during this part of the year. We encourage you to act now and let us know what your plans are during this time, so that we can be part of them and add some value. We can assist with on-site and/or off-site servicing by appointment. Chat with our team about our amazing range of Live Streaming Solutions that we can offer if you are considering that avenue for your clients.

We are fully aware that the virtual standstill of the industry has had a dramatic effect on cash flow and capex activities. We as Electrosonic are also part of the chain, as much as our clients lean on us to assist them in times of need, we too will have to lean on our partners to get us ALL though this tough time. The key here is communication. We encourage you to reach out, talk to us about your situation and how together we can all ride this.

Our Pro AV team are also here and ready to assist you. Whether it is updating software, assisting you with Live Streaming Solutions or putting together designs for future projects, we are ready and waiting. We are proud to confirm that the ProAV Tech Trends Showcase will still be taking place at our Johannesburg Lily office on 23 – 27 March 2020. Please encourage those who are interested in viewing our latest audio-visual products to come around. The necessary and required measures have been put in place, and our venue will be disinfected and suitable to use for presentations. We will limit this to small groups for your safety and ours, the upside is that this will also give you a more personal experience in a more relaxed environment.

On a sad note we have taken the decision to cancel all group training related activities until further notice. However, we will be offering online training so kindly contact us for more information.

Finally, Electrosonic is open for business, the Management and the staff of Electrosonic are                                      positive that we will get through this and are committed to doing our best for our valued customers, our suppliers and our precious staff.

Our team will continuously update you with the status of any orders and actions that Electrosonic will be taking in light of COVID-19.

Continue being vigilant in protecting yourself and others by doing the following:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly, to the top of your arms, (for at least 20 seconds) with water and soap on a regular basis.
  • Consider getting a hand sanitiser (minimum alcohol content 60%) for when you are out and about, or have to use biometric access systems (the finger print machine).
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth (if you have to, wash your hands with soap thoroughly first).
  • Cover your mouth with a cloth or the inside of your elbow when sneezing or coughing.
  • If possible, postpone any unnecessary international or local travel.

Avoid going to hospitals unnecessarily. Where possible, delay non-emergency/elective surgeries.

Unless you’ve been travelling, or have had contact with people with known infection, your risk for contracting COVID-19 is almost negligible.

However, if you suspect that you might have contracted the virus and are showing signs of respiratory illness, please do the following:

  • Call your doctor, who will assess you and see whether you qualify as a person under investigation.
  • Self-isolate at home, and avoid social contacts.
  • If a family member cares for you, he/she should wear a face mask when they are in the room with you, and wash their hands thoroughly when they leave a room.
  • Doctors have been informed and trained on how and from whom they should collect specimens. When you visit the doctor, clinic or hospital, you will be asked certain questions, examined and informed whether you should be tested. If so, they will collect a specimen for testing and send this to a laboratory.
  • Various labs have been trained on testing for the virus and are working closely with NICD (http://www.nicd.ac.za/) on the same.
