Nestled within this vibrant atrium, where the inventive minds of University of Cape Town's (UCT) design thinking students converge, emerges the groundbreaking 220” MAXHUB LED display – a pinnacle of modernism in the realm of visual technology tailored for the creative spirit.

This monumental installation process, with MAXHUB supplied by Electrosonic SA, was brought to life through the expertise of System Integrator Andy Haigh-Smith (Owner, REACT Audio Visual) and Jorge Vilares (Pro-AV specialist, Electrosonic SA). The project team's primary goal was to turn the atrium into a vibrant and interactive hub for student community gatherings, fostering creativity and learning. After completing the installation, UCT invited the City of Cape Town’s Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis for a walk-through of the new d-school building. He was visibly impressed with the building's modern architecture, its impressive LED display, and shared his thoughts on the value of design thinking in our communities.

Richard Perez, Founding Director of Hasso Plattner d-school Afrika, expressed his views on the new HPI d-school building at UCT's middle campus: “If we really want to have a presence in Africa, we need to have a bigger space. Part of the key unique aspects of the design of this building is this concept of flexibility.” The studio spaces, huddle rooms, and staff areas seamlessly converge within the atrium, where the MAXHUB LED screen takes centre stage. Its substantial size aligns perfectly with Richard Perez's original vision of creating larger spaces.

Meticulously crafted to captivate and deeply engage, this state-of-the-art MAXHUB Raptor LED display transcends conventional boundaries, ushering in a new era of immersive experiences and dynamic presentations. It establishes fresh benchmarks for large-format displays, enriching communication and interaction within the realm of creative academia and professional exploration.

At the official opening of the HPI d-school Africa, Professor Dr Hasso Plattner also commented, “Africa has to help itself and this is an attempt to create an environment where people are enabled to help themselves.”

Electrosonic SA is proud to have played a role in this incredible project, empowering young individuals to construct a brighter future for themselves, their nation, and the entire African continent.
