By Abrie du Plooy

Never again will a lecturer or presenter have to turn their backs to their audience. We all remember how learning and presenting methods developed from chalkboards to projection, laser pointer

Wireless presentation, and interactive displays. It has just gotten better. The next generation in lecturing technology is here.

Technology is all about advancement, it’s about growth, progress and improvement. It’s an ever-changing bubble filled with ideas and attempts, maybes, blood and sweat and the common objective is to improve what we currently have. The question is always, what’s next? How to? How can we save or be more effective? So, how can a lecturer present without turning away from his audience. The solution lies within the revolutionary lecturing technology of MAXHUB Podium/Smart Lectern, a fully interactive lectern that is changing the face of presentation technology.

THE HARDWARE

The MAXHUB podium has a clean and sleek design on a motorized height adjustable frame. The height adjustment even accommodates wheelchair users. It offers a 21.5 inch, 10-point, capacitive touch display with a pressure sensitive stylus providing the latest technology in on-screen writing. The MAXHUB Podium includes an Intel 8th Generation i5 CPU preloaded with Windows 10 (included in the price). It offers 2 gooseneck wireless microphones and an internal speaker. The lectern has 4 physical buttons. Power on/off, up and down high adjustment and audio mute.

THE FUNCTIONALITY

This product boasts with long list of functions and features to improve the overall presentation experience for both lecturer and the learner.

1. Multipoint Wireless connectivity - both source and display.

a. On the display side, the Podium can be wirelessly connected to any display system. 3rd party brands will require a MAXHUB Mirroring unit to provide an HDMI break-out which allows the MAXHUB Podium to be introduced into existing venues with existing displays. If the system brand proprietary, the MAXHUB Podium connects directly to any MAXHUB LED or LCD display up to the 220” MAXHUB Integrated Raptor LED Wall series (which makes for a really sleek and gorgeous auditorium).

b. The 2 gooseneck microphones connect to an external wireless microphone receiver with a line audio output. This independent speech system allows for the audio component to be integrated into existing venues.

c. On the source side, the user will connect his own laptop with a simple confirmation process, not only to establish the connection, but also to ensure the bi-directional connection is to a local room and not accidentally to another room nearby. Once the presenter is connected to the Podium, they can leave their own device anywhere in the venue and have full control of the latter from the podium, not only the presentation but also other apps and functions. Users can connect with their own mobile devices or even a good, old school flash drive.

2. The podium as a stand-alone product offers fully customizable welcome options including pictures, videos and audio which can simply be interrupted with a touch on the screen and reactivated in the same way. The user is able to annotate at all times over anything that is displayed on the screen, whether it is a white board, presentation, or a welcome page.

3. Eye contact has always been a great way to maintain someone’s attention or follow a conversation albeit not always possible in a large auditorium or function venue. With the MAXHUB Podium, the presenter would never have to turn away from the audience in order to point or annotate on a board or screen. The interactive lectern allows to lecturer to face the captive audience throughout the presentation.

4. Content Sharing is crucial in a learning environment. Training sessions are always cramped with an overload of information in short sessions. Traditionally the presentation material has been distributed prior to sessions and attendees would have to make their own notes. With the podium, the completed session including display and annotations can be shared with a QR code which can be displayed to the audience. The attendees then simply scan the code and download the content.

5. Windows10 OS is installed (and licensed) onto the internal i5 PC by default and the user is able to use any feature or program that is facilitated by Windows 10 including network, server or cloud access and any desired Windows application.

Experiencing this amazing product firsthand will emphasize the wow effect. It is not possible to describe the full extent of the functionality and features in a short article.
