AV Unlimited Skouspel

After their tremendous success with the lighting of Skouspel last year, it came as no surprise when Joshua Cutts and AV Unlimited were again asked to apply their magic at Sun City this year.

A highlight on the entertainment calendar each year, the fast-paced and dynamic Skouspel 2008 was held over 2 weekends with 7 sold-out shows at the Superbowl for audiences of 6,500 per show.

Sponsored by Huisgenoot magazine, the event spotlights the best of Afrikaans musicians and singers, featuring approximately 20 local performers and more than 60 songs. The show was recorded live for broadcasting and later release on DVD.

With only a week to load and rehearse, the AV Unlimited crew displayed their usual grace under pressure, suffering only minor set-backs that were soon overcome.

The massive lighting rig was loaded with Martin Professional lights, including 18 x MAC 700 Profile, 12 x MAC 700 Wash, 12 x MAC 2000 Washes, 12 x MAC 250 Entours, 12 x MAC 600 Washes, 6 x MAC 300 Washes, 30 x LED Par Cans, 12 x 5k Fresnels, 24 x 2k Fresnels, 12 x 2k Blondes, 108 Par 64s, 24 x Selecon Profiles. The lights were controlled off Joshua’s Martin Maxxyz controller, with a Maxxyz Compact controller provided by Electrosonic for backup.

The enormous set was able to accommodate a vast number of musicians as well as 2 orchestras on stage, and incorporated revolving stage pieces, a balcony section for the band and the interesting addition of some circle pieces provided by AV Unlimited’s recently acquired Litec Truss.
