ELECTROSONIC UPGRADES THE AUDITORIUM AT THE LESOTHO NATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE
South Africa’s neighbouring countries are often overlooked as potential markets, so when Bruce Schwartz from Electrosonic received a call from the Lesotho National Convention Centre, he leaped at the chance to pay a visit to the mountain kingdom and explore potential business opportunities.
A day trip to meet with members of the Department of Culture was all it took to convince the Government of Lesotho that they were in good hands with Electrosonic. The existing installation at the Auditorium in the convention centre is composed of Chinese products, but without local service and support it became very difficult for the Centre to fulfill the expectations of the government ministers and dignitaries.
Electrosonic supplied a complete generic rig of 18 x 2k Selecon theatre Fresnels, 36 x Parcans, 2 x MAC 575 Kryptons, 2 x MAC 600 Wash moving heads and a Compulite D-Lite console for control.
Keith Pugin and Kobus Visser from Electrosonic installed the equipment in two days with a third day allocated for training and commissioning. A second trip is being planned to modernize the cable infrastructure.
The team removed the old luminaires and the control desk, but retained the cabling, dimmers and fly bars. The dimmer channels and cables were then tested before the Selecon luminaries, the MACs and the new Compulite desk were installed. Transforming the old analogue equipment into a digital system also required the installation of a Demux unit to ensure that the system allowed for future expansion.
The lighting control room is situated inside one of the side slots. A number of pages of basic scenes were programmed by Kobus Visser to allow the client to use the system until the lighting operator becomes familiar with the new desk.
Venue Manager, Ntauta is delighted with the new equipment and impressed that a two man team could install it in only two days! He said he could not wait to use it for the next event - a wedding to be held in the venue the day after the installation had been completed.
