The Hilton Arts Festival, held in September at Hilton College near Pietermaritzburg, is a miniature Grahamstown Arts Festival, boasting some of South Africa's most popular theatre productions as well as music events and craft markets. After discussions with the festival coordinator, it was decided that instead of sponsoring technical gear for the festival, Electrosonic KZN would have a stand aimed at creating awareness among scholars and students about the technology, providing information about the products, as well as offering hands-on technical training.
Bruce Schwartz attended a training course on Martin products at the R&D offices in Belgium in June. He joined nine other people from around the world who attended three days of training on the Martin Maxxyz II, the MSD Visualiser and the Maxedia.

CES (Complete Event Solutions) in Johannesburg was the first customer to put their faith in Martin’s new ‘little’ wonder. Having seen the MAC101 in action on YouTube, Dylan Bridle immediately requested a demo of the unit at Electrosonic and ordered 32 of them for the Armin Van Buuren ASOT 500 show and soon thereafter a further 16 units, bringing the total to 48, which have been used for numerous gigs ranging from H20 to James Blunt to Kings of Leon. “We just love ‘em – plain and simple,” said Dylan.
